Patrick Carney announced Wednesday (Feb. 20) that his new band Sad Planets will release their debut album this spring.
The Black Keys drummer joins forces with singer John Petkovic of Death of Samantha, Sweet Apple and Guided by Voices to form the new project. Their debut album, Akron, Ohio, is named in honor of the pair’s Midwestern hometown.
“When Patrick asked if I wanted to come to Akron to jam with him in the studio,” Petkovic said in a release, “I saw it as a chance to work with a longtime friend, but also an opportunity to reconnect with Akron in a very different way.”

The 10-track album will feature a guest appearance by J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and is preceded by the psychedelic rock of lead single “Not of This World.”
