The men’s free skate program at the Olympics was highlighted by rock songs from familiar names.
Sunday night’s (Feb. 11) figure skating event began with Russia’s Mikhail Kolyada performing to an Elvis Presley medley that included the well-known tracks “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Rip It Up.”
Italian figure skater Matteo Rizzo followed, with a routine performed to a trio of Beatles classics: “Come Together,” “Let It Be” and “Help!”
The much-anticipated routine from Adam Rippon, who’s skating for the United States, featured the Cinematic Orchestra’s “Arrival of the Birds” and Coldplay‘s “O.” “Chris Martin has this voice that resonates through a whole arena,” Rippon commented in a recent interview with Billboard.
Canada’s Patrick Chan followed with a performance set to Jeff Buckley‘s beautiful version of “Hallelujah,” while Japan’s Keiji Tanaka chose to skate to a medley by Italian composer Nino Rota (“Amarcord,” “La Notti Di Cabiria”).
