Tacoma-to-New York transplant Brad Oberhofer is getting ready to release the sophomore album from his namesake band next Friday (Oct. 9). Today, we’re premiering a giddy burst of funhouse mirror indie rock called “Someone Take Me Home.”
Check it out below:
“Who’s gonna love you for the rest of you life?” Oberhofer yelps in the chorus, hitting unexpected helium-gulping vocal heights. “Who’s gonna love you till the day that you die?” Props to Oberhofer for sounding like about five different singers over the course of this song, working over a song that sounds like Blue Album-era Weezer through the first verse and about-faces into bursts of psychedelia for the chorus.
Speaking on the lyrics, Oberhofer tells Billboard: “Seems like a lot of people invest more energy into sustaining inconsequential internet-based relationships than real-life or more fruitful in-person human interactions, rendering us lonelier and less empathetic.”
In other words, someone (real, not a bot) please take Brad Oberhofer home.
After garnering a lot of buzz from some early demos, Oberhofer signed with Glassnote Records and released its debut album, Time Capsules II, in 2012. Next week’s follow-up is called Chronovision, and it comes out on the same label.
Oberhofer has a few dates remaining on its 2015 U.S. tour. Check them out below:
