A new multimedia project from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is on the way. The long-running Australian band will release a studio album called Skeleton Tree on Sept. 9, preceded by a feature film called One More Time With Feeling.
The Andrew Dominik-directed film will launch globally on Sept. 8 for “one night only,” giving fans their first chance to hear any of the new music, according to Cave’s official site. Likewise, the band did not share an advance single or any other music along with the announcement. We know the album is coming via Bad Seed Ltd., though the iTunes pre-order avoids even naming its eight tracks.

Cave and company did share the following details in a press release:
Originally a performance based concept, One More Time With Feeling evolved into something much more significant as Dominik delved into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album. Interwoven throughout the Bad Seeds’ filmed performance of the new album are interviews and footage shot by Dominik, accompanied by Cave’s intermittent narration and improvised rumination.
Filmed in black-and-white and colour, in both 3D and 2D, the result is stark, fragile and raw, and a true testament to an artist trying to find his way through the darkness.

The new album is Cave’s first release since his 15-year old son Arthur died tragically last July in a fall from a cliff in Brighton, England.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ last studio album was 2013’s Push the Sky Away, which was followed by the semi-staged documentary 20,000 Days on Earth. This new film-album combo follows Cave’s 2015 book The Sick Bag Song, which was inspired by notes the musician scribbled on airline vomit bags over a 22-city journey.
