It’s been almost a week since Eagles of Death Metal gave their riveting first interview since the Nov. 13 Paris attacks. Still, news of the music community’s response to the tragedy continues to trickle in. National frontman Matt Berninger (promoting his side project El Vy) said in a Facebook Q&A yesterday (Nov. 30) that his main band shelved a Thanksgiving-themed song it wrote for the Fox show Bob’s Burgers due to its sensitivity to the recent events.
“It was a goofy song about Thanksgiving and how Europe doesn’t have Thanksgiving,” Berninger said. “Maybe it’ll come out next year, it’s really funny.”
He also announced that the National’s next LP won’t arrive until after 2016. For more on that so-far untitled album — which will allegedly include some uncharacteristically uptempo songs — check out Billboard’s previous story on the National’s new music.
Pearl Jam Covers Eagles of Death Metal’s ‘I Want You So Hard’ After Paris Attacks
In other Eagles of Death Metal news, the band has called upon others to cover their song “I Love You All the Time” and promised to donate all of the proceeds to the Sweet Stuff Foundation, as a benefit for the victims. My Morning Jacket recently covered “I Love You All the Time” and now, the latest act to put their spin on it is the Dean Ween Group.
The Ween frontman (a.k.a. Mickey Melchiondo) has long been a close friend of Eagles of Death Metal co-founder Josh Homme, and he dutifully cut this cover shortly after the band’s request. That’s Ray Kubian, drummer for the Dean Ween group, on lead vocals.
“PLEASE SHARE EVERYWHERE!” Melchiondo rallied, posting the song to YouTube. “It’s Josh’s favorite version — we’re going for one million views — please share! DO NOT UNPIN THIS! I am calling out everyone here to share this please?”
