
In celebration of its 15-year anniversary, ATO Records is putting out a series of reissues, including signee Mike Doughty‘s solo album Haughty Melodic. As a treat for fans, Doughty’s reissued CD will feature a previously unreleased bonus track called “I’m Still Drinking in My Dreams,” which you can listen to now exclusively on Billboard.
“I was surprised to discover, when I listened to it years later, that it’s one of my favorite tracks from those sessions, and whatever rationale [producer] Dan Wilson and I had for leaving it off totally escapes me,” Doughty said about the bonus track. “[It’s] one of those things where you’re making a record and you stop seeing the forest for the trees — like, maybe there were too many songs in D major already or something. It was loony to exclude it.”

Haughty Melodic was Soul Coughing founder Mike Doughty’s first full-band solo album and was originally released in 2005 with ATO Records, the Dave Matthews co-owned record label. When Billboard covered the album premiere over a decade ago, Doughty described the album’s sound as “a lot like the ‘Madchester’ bands of the late ’80s, early ’90s,” and Doughty’s bonus track maintains the album’s psychedelic rock sound,
