New Jersey pop-punkers Man Overboard have been going at it since 2008, and they’re not showing any signs of slowing down, even if a lot of real life heaviness preceded the making of their latest LP. In fact, it’s called Heavy Love, and the band wasn’t afraid to drop some real talk on its latest track.
It’s called “Reality Check” and it’s premiering today, exclusively on Billboard. Check it out below:
Yup, this one’s going to open up the pits and get hands in the air. It’s a breakneck relationship wake-up call delivered by vocalists Zac Eisenstein and Nik Bruzzese, which warns “another one’s getting away,” as if another moment waited is another moment lost. Propulsive, weaving guitars from Eisenstein and Wayne Wildrick, a driving drumbeat from Joe Talarico… Man O is definitely on point here.

“We attempted a lot of new things on this album,” Eisenstein tells Billboard. “Our producer, Bill Stevenson, pushed us to progress ourselves as songwriters and as a band. We achieved new sounds we had never gone for before, this song however, is a throwback to the original style we had in mind when we started the band. I tried really hard to capture a youthful feel on this track.”
The new album Heavy Love drops June 29 on Rise Records. It’s their forth album, following 2013’s Heart Attack. Pre-orders are available on the band’s official website.
Man Overboard will be playing the entire Vans Warped Tour this summer, beginning June 19 in Pomona, California.
