Machine Gun Kelly dropped the blood-drenched video for his techno punk song “Daywalker!” on Friday (March 19) and it is guaranteed to freak you out.
The hyper visual, which the rapper/singer co-directed with Sam Cahill, finds MGK teamed up with internet persona Corpse Husband and YouTuber Valkyrae in a frantic visual that matches the song’s hectic beat.
In the first act, Mr. Gun Kelly gets drawn into a bare-knuckle street brawl before the action switches to a police station interrogation room where a blue-haired MGK bangs on the table in frustration. As he fights himself in a sparsely decorated room, the rapper is joined by Valkyrae, who spits clouds of blood on a white wall in tune to the refrain, “Fight, fight, fight, fight!”
Mysterious web denizen Corpse provides rumbling, menacing vocals on the second verse, rage whispering, “They tried to kill me in the rain/ Tried to lay me down and so I ducked and ran away/ Put a gun up to my face, so I’ll f–king catch a case.”
The song, co-produced by MGK with his hype man SlimXX and bassist BazeXX, is the first new offering from the rapper-turned-pop singer in 2021 and finds him pivoting into yet another new musical direction, adding slashes of horrorcore and glitchy techno to his eclectic mix.
And, as if the whole thing wasn’t creepy enough, in the third act MGK adds a Joker-like effect to his face that makes it look like his mouth is slashed open from ear-to-ear while rapping about an invisible voice in his head that is constantly encouraging him with murderous thoughts.
MGK made history this week when “My Ex’s Best Friend,” his collab with Blackbear, hit the top stop on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart dated March 13. This marked the first time in the chart’s three-decades that two soloists billed as lead artists have hit the top of the tally.
