A concertgoer who thought he could get away with yelling a sexist vulgarity at avowed feminist Leah Fay was abruptly put in his place — first by the singer, then by security guards.
During July Talk‘s Friday show in Buffalo, N.Y., a man interrupted a quiet, intimate part of the show by yelling, “Show him your tits.”
Fay, a singer in the band, immediately confronted the heckler: “Who the f— said that? Are you f—ing kidding me, dude? Do you listen to our music? Do you have any idea what this band is about?”

If you intend to make ANYONE feel unsafe, don’t come. If we can’t treat each other w/ care + decency at shows, we’re fucked everywhere else. pic.twitter.com/FNc8iRtFVe

The offender reportedly punched another concertgoer while being escorted out of the venue by security guards, and his father attempted to fight one of the guards.
Fay tweeted Monday morning about the incident: “If you intend to make ANYONE feel unsafe, don’t come. If we can’t treat each other w/ care + decency at shows, we’re f—ed everywhere else.”
That tweet followed a public letter she wrote to the heckler, in which she expresses compassion for the offender, writing: “I love you because you were brought up in a f—ed up society, under broken systems that taught you this kind of behaviour is okay. If I hate you, these norms will never change + you will never learn to move over for, converse with, or ever really listen to anyone who doesn’t naturally speak as loudly as you do. Unfortunately, in 2016, no one speaks louder than people like you. So here’s to a softer 2017, everybody. But that’s enough taking shit now.”
