L.A.-based band LANY showed off why they’re one of the fastest rising groups in rock with a captivating and creative performance of their ballad “Thru These Tears,” on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday night (Aug. 6).
The band’s unique brand of minimalism was at the heart of their performance: with the members mostly dressed in all-white outfits featuring boldly colored text, a transparent piano and simple instrumentation. During the first few verses, they drowned the stage in purple and pink lights while singer Paul Jason Klein worked the crowd, gently crooning about loss and healing with the charisma of a seasoned R&B star.
At the height of the song, Klein moved to the see-through piano for a rhythmic solo that set the audience off. As the band came back in, the lights turned bright yellow and the singer let out a final, poignant chorus, “Driving home on an empty highway I thought about you and I hit the brakes/ What we had and who we were was so clear/ But right now I can’t see nothing through these tears.”
“Thru These Tears,” is the first single off the group’s upcoming album, Malibu Nights, which follows their 2017 self-titled record.
