Colin Macleod dropped by The Late Late Show to perform “Kicks In” off his debut album Bloodlines on Wednesday night (Oct. 17).
The folk musician tried to get his music career off the ground by releasing music under the name The Boy Who Trapped The Sun in 2010, but ended up heading back to the Isle of Lewis in Scotland where he returned to farming. His move ultimately provided him the inspiration he needed to write a new album, which was released on May 18 under his own name.
The change clearly has done him good, as evidenced by his impressive performance on James Corden’s stage. Soft blue lights illuminated Macleod and his four-piece band as the singer opened the soothing folk rock tune with the lines, “I got lost when I was young,” his voice carrying a weight similar to that of Killers frontman Brandon Flowers.
The relaxed energy of Macleod’s acoustic guitar lead the song as he journeyed through a narrative of growing up on his home island. Loosely based on Macleod’s own decision to stay in his homeland and not head off to something subjectively greater right away, his passion was evident throughout the performance.
