Strokes singer Julian Casablancas and his band The Voidz took to the stage on The Late Late Show to perform their latest single “Qyurryus.” Shadowed in a dark green fog, the band gave a stellar performance of their funky dark wave track.
The off-kilter song is off their upcoming album Virtue, which is set for release on March 30. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Music, Casablancas cited the single as a reason why he needs the Voidz as an outlet. “I basically had stuff that I liked that was weird… and dark,” the singer said. “Writing with musicians, bouncing off people live in the room is really what I love to do…[so] it was a long quest to find a cool, like, ‘dream team’ of musical soulmates on a wavelength of the kind of stuff I wanted to do.”
In addition to the group’s performance, Casablanacas also sat down with host James Corben to talk about the new song. “I think its like a philosophical mocking of all language,” Casablancas says of the track’s odd spelling. “Words are so real to us, but they’re kind of made up anyway.”
