A Jeopardy! contestant confused Jack White with fellow Detroit native Eminem last night (Jan. 11). In response to host Alex Trebek’s question, “A recent vinyl resurgence has been aided by this musician, who built a pressing plant in his Detroit hometown,” the contestant quickly mistook rocker White for rapper Eminem.
The hilarity of this moment lies in the fact that the question was accompanied by a photo of The White Stripes rocker, donning a fedora, a razor sharp goatee, and maybe the thinnest mustache ever. The contestant’s blunder was picked up by another competitor on the show, who swiftly answered correctly.
White’s new Detroit record plant, Third Man Pressing, has brought a sense of resurgence to the storied musical city that had fallen on financial hard times over the past decade. The new plant/record store threw a grand opening party last February, featuring performances from another Motor City artist, Danny Brown.
