Earlier this week, Jared Leto caught some heat when TMZ leaked a video of him and Thirty Seconds to Mars listening to Taylor Swift’s 1989 and saying how they really felt (choice quote: “I don’t give a f–k about her. It’s whatever works best for us.”) Swift’s fans were none too happy, and now, Leto has issued a formal apology.
“The truth is I think Taylor Swift is amazing + an incredible example of what’s possible,” he tweeted. “If I hurt her or her fans my sincerest apologies.”

It’s worth noting that Leto and the band weren’t simply hanging out in the studio, bashing Swift for the fun of it. In the video, it appears Thirty Seconds to Mars was listening to 1989 for personal inspiration, and were talking about how certain sounds and ideas worked for her but wouldn’t work for them. The “I don’t give a f–k about her” comment alludes to this. Additionally, they did like the verses of “Blank Space” and call “Style” an “interesting little pop song.”

So at least we know what the new Thirty Seconds to Mars album won’t sound like. Last month, Leto Instagrammed a photo of himself beside a mic with the caption, “#MarsIsComing,” so the video is at least more reason to assume new music is in the works.
Swift herself has not publicly commented on the issue.
