Imagine Dragons pay tribute to video game culture with a new video for “Zero,” the song they wrote for Disney’s Ralph Breaks The Internet (the sequel to 2012’s Wreck It Ralph).
The eccentric video, out today (Oct. 23) takes place in a neon-lit arcade, as the members of Imagine Dragons assume the identities of nerdy gamers, ski-ball enthusiasts and disgruntled prize booth managers. The “Zero” video also references some iconic aspects of video game culture, like frontman Dan Reynolds wandering through a maze as a human Pac-Man, or guitarist Wayne Sermon as a video game avatar called “Orpheus.”
“Zero” is a power anthem for the underdog, reflecting the struggles of the movie’s misfit main characters Ralph and Vanellope.
“That journey of feeling like nothing and trying to realize and recognize your worth as a human is an important part of life,” Reynolds said in a release. “And given the distorted version of reality kids face online and the expectations that come with it, this struggle is real for so many people right now.”
“Zero,” as well as their chart topping song “Natural,” will appear on Imagine Dragons’ fourth studio album Origins, out on Nov. 9.
