Tthe tenth studio album from Huey Lewis & the News — their first LP of new material in 19 years– is shaping up to be a momentous one.
During the recording sessions last year, Lewis was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease, an inner ear disorder that rendered the frontman unable to perform live due to hearing loss. Nevertheless, Huey and the gang pressed onward, wrapping up the album and sharing its tongue-in-cheek lead single “Her Love Is Killin’ Me” back in September. That track used the band’s classic soul-pop sound to bring some levity to the frontman’s situation; its follow-up delivers in the same feel-good manner.
The jaunty, brass-inflected “While We’re Young” celebrates living in the moment, seizing the day no matter what your age, and enjoying afternoon naps. As a wise man once said, it’s hip to be square.
The new album is titled Weather and it’s due Feb. 14, 2020 via BMG. It’s the San Francisco group’s first full-length since 2010’s Soulsville (a collection of Stax Records covers) and its first album of original songs since 2001’s Plan B. It was self-produced by Huey Lewis and the band.
