It’s still hip to be square! On Thursday (Sept. 26), Huey Lewis & The News dropped their first new single in over a decade, “Her Love Is Killin’ Me.”
The bluesy track finds Lewis positively lovesick as his longtime bandmates jam out in their classic, rollicking style. “My head hurts, my body aches/ I quit drinkin’ but I got the shakes/ So sore I can hardly walk/ And I just mumble when I tr-tr-try to talk/ Stumblin’ and tumblin’ like a bumblebee/ Her love is killin’ me,” Lewis wails over the group’s signature horn blasts, ‘80s-style synths and blazing electric guitar.
Not only is “Her Love Is Killin’ Me” the rock band’s first release since 2010’s Soulsville, it’s the group’s first preview of new material since the iconic frontman was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease in 2018 — rendering him unable to perform live due to hearing loss.
The new song will be featured on Huey Lewis & The News’ as-yet-untitled tenth studio album, which is expected to be released in 2020 just in time for the band’s upcoming 40th anniversary.
