Marilyn Manson spilled a lot of dirt during his chat with Howard Stern on SiriusXM on Tuesday morning (Sept. 19). He talked about how he loves to wrestle with pal Johnny Depp, described the time ex-wife Dita Von Teese punched him in the face during a foursome in Zurich because he forgot to stare into her eyes during the act, explained the reason he and Trent Reznor were estranged for so many years (he thought Reznor had destroyed the master tapes to his early works, but it turns out he didn’t) and the emotionally draining trip back home to Canton, Ohio, he took earlier this year to take care of his dying father.
But the moment everyone was waiting for was when Manson finally cleared up his recent T-shirt-related beef with Justin Bieber. To recap: Bieber often wore a Manson shirt on stage during his recent tour — which featured Manson’s face on the front and “Bigger Than Satan… Bieber” on the back — and when Manson ran into him at a celebrity bar and mentioned it, Bieber quipped, “I made your relevant again.” That did not sit well with the Antichrist Superstar and he’s talked about it in several recent interviews to promote his upcoming 10th album, Heaven Upside Down (Oct. 6).
But all, it appears, is apparently forgiven now. Manson told Stern he doesn’t really have a problem with Bieber, proving it by handing his “burner phone” over to the radio legend to share what he said was a recent text exchange he had with Justin. “Bro, it’s Bieber what’s up with that article? I thought we had a pretty pleasant interaction. Also, if anything wasn’t squared away with the T-shirts I’m so sorry,” read the purported missive from JB. “Anyway, regardless, it kind of stung seeing that if I came off as an asshole or was just an asshole, I’m sorry.”
That sincere mea culpa was followed by a series of questions marks, to which Manson responded simply, “words.” Manson explained “that’s what I say to girls when they talk.” The rocker said the “I made you relevant again” comment is what bothered him more than the bootleg T-shirt with his image on the front and JB’s pic on the back. “It was just a cocky little thing to say,” Manson told Stern. The text exchange continued with Manson writing, “That [the interview] was exaggerated. You were just you being you. No beef here.”
So, Stern said, Manson doesn’t have a problem with the “Sorry” singer?
“I just said ‘you were just being you,’ which could mean you’re just being an asshole, or whatever,” Manson laughed.
“Honestly, I totally thought we hit it off,” Bieber replied. “Again, my bad, if I was an asshole that wasn’t my intention. Just want you to know that.” Manson, sensing an opportunity to do the thing he loves the most — mess with people — texted back: “We are cool. People just made that shirt stuff into a fake feud. Let’s turn it upside-down and fuck the press and do something together. It will be the best. And don’t apologize, you weren’t an asshole. They asked if you were and I sort of agreed. I wasn’t out to get you.” A spokesperson for Bieber could not be reached for comment.
Manson ended by promising not to “shit talk” Bieber on Stern. “Well thanks, LOL,” Bieber responded.?
