“Don’t sweat the small stuff and just keep on keepin’ on.” That’s the message in Hellyeah‘s moving video tribute to late brother in metal Vinnie Paul, who died last year. The band dropped the wistful visual for “Skyy and Water” on Friday (Sept. 27), mixing performance and backstage images of the band’s late drummer, who died in June 2018 at 54 in his sleep from heart disease.
The song appears on the band’s sixth studio album, Welcome Home, also out Friday on Eleven Seven Music. “I think Vince would be proud of what we’ve done. Chad really nailed it vocally and lyrically. We went out of the box a bit on this album. Left the studio a few times a little uncertain, but we tried new stuff, and we’re eager to see what people think of it,” said guitarist Tom Maxwell of singer Chad Gray’s emotional vocals on the acoustic ballad.
“We have to keep flying [Vinnie’s] flag, to carry on legacies, and to carry on what heavy metal truly represents — and that is loyalty, that is love, and that is trust,” added Gray. Welcome Home’s 11 tracks feature Paul’s final recordings with the band. “Choking back my tears again today/ I can hear your voice/ I can hear you say, ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff and just keep on keepin’ on,” Gray sings on the song.
