Music has the power to lift spirits and make you see the brighter side of things, and that’s exactly what Grouplove did on their smooth new track “MRI” off their upcoming EP Little Mess.
The song, which premieres today on Billboard, begins with guitar that builds gradually and intensifies until Hannah Hooper’s vocals fade out and we’re left with some sweet instrumentation. The singer croons lyrics like, “Before you feel like everything’s gone wrong/ Let’s laugh and sing / And think about this song.”
Speaking on the EP, Hooper tells Billboard, “Sometimes we have experiences where it feels like it’s the end of the world. This song is about talking yourself down from that space. This EP is an extension of our album. It reveals more of the darker side of life we’ve been going through. We were so caught up and delusional in the making of ‘big mess’ that we left out some of our favorite songs; that’s why we are putting out ‘little mess’.”
Little Mess, which was written and recorded during the making of Grouplove’s most recent full-length album Big Mess, is due out Friday (May 5). Listen to “MRI” below.
