Green Day will premiere a new song during the upcoming NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe hockey game in Nevada on Feb. 20, Billboard can exclusively announce today (Feb. 17).
The two regular-season outdoor games, taking place at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort, will also feature Pentatonix remotely performing the National Anthem on Feb. 21.
The two match-ups — featuring the Colorado Avalanche and Las Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday (Feb. 20) in the Bridgestone NHL Outdoors, and the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers playing at the Honda NHL Outdoors on Sunday (Feb. 21) — will air live on NBC at 3:00 p.m. ET.
The NHL will premiere Green Day’s new song, “Here Comes the Shock,” for the first time at the Feb. 20 game within a highlight reel of the top plays of the first quarter of the 2020-21 NHL season.
“LOUD season has returned. We’re stoked ‘Here Comes The Shock’ will soundtrack the NHL’s return to the outdoors!” Green Day said in a statement.
“Here Comes the Shock” will be available on all major streaming services on Feb. 21. As part of a two-year-deal with the NHL, Green Day’s music will be featured through the remainder of the 2021 season.
At press time, a spokesperson for the band had not returned a request for additional information on the fresh track.
Green Day released their 13th studio album, Father of All… in February 2020 and while they wait for their delayed Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer to kick off on June 9, they’ve kept busy with some other sports appearances, including rocking the stage during the 10th annual NFL Honors earlier this month before Super Bowl LV.
