Glenn Danzig is diving deeper into darkness with a newly announced performance venture.
His Blackest of the Black lineup — the Danzig-headlined tour that he has intermittently taken on the road — will be presented for the first time as a festival during Memorial Day weekend (May 26-27), which will feature such bands as Ministry, Suicidal Tendencies, Atreyu, Fear Factory and Suicide Silence. Taking a cue from such camp-and-concert packages as Rock on the Range and Rocklahoma, attendees have the option to pitch a tent or park an RV at the venue site of Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, Calif.
Metal radio personality Full Metal Jackie will host the event. The weekend will also feature a slew of sinister attractions that include the Castle Danzig walkthrough experience, a Verotik/ComicCon area (Verotik is Danzig’s branded comic book company), a sacrifice altar (we’re unsure exactly what sacrifices are permitted), suspension and bondage stages, a roaming freak show, a sugar skull contest and thrill rides.
“I first started Blackest in the early 2000s, and finally, my full vision is being realized,” said Danzig in a statement. “Get ready for sensory overload, from films to comics to Castle Danzig. This is going to be the real Blackest of the Black.”

The venue will contain two Danzig-curated stages. The lineup for May 26 is: Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion of Conformity, Suicide Silence, Discharge, Belphegor, Butcher Babies and 3 Teeth. The lineup for May 27 is: Danzig, Ministry, Vamps, Atreyu, Venom Inc., DevilDriver, Fear Factory, Marduk, Combichrist, Ghoul and Ritual. More acts are to be announced for both dates.

Danzig is due to release Black Laden Crown, his first album of original material since 2010’s Deth Red Sabaoth, in May. His band also intends to celebrate the 25th anniversary of 1992’s Danzig III: How the Gods Kill by featuring multiple tracks from the album during their 2017 live performances.
