Galactic, Funky METERS, Skrillex; Cloud 9’s Mark Brown on A Decade of Jam Cruises
The group, which formed during 1994 in New Orleans, also got a chance to take stock in the progress it’s made from the beginning. “It’s a lot take in,” Mercurio notes. “The process of how we make music and how we come across from the creation of our first album to this album is completely different, even though maybe (Into The Deep) does hearken back to some of those times. But performance-wise, songwriting-wise, production wise, collaboration-wise, it’s all progressed so much to me. And it’s so weird to be a band that doesn’t have a regular singer, not since House Man (Theryl DeClouet) left. Usually the lead singer is the band, but we’re this rhythm section that collaborates with different people, and with each singer we’ve learned a little bit and grown. That’s a refreshing process.”
Galactic will be playing sporadic dates during the summer and fall, mostly festivals as well as a four-night stand at the Brooklyn Bowl during August and the Jam Cruise out of Miami in January. Heavy touring will start in January, with dates still to be determined.
