The legend of Future Islands’ impassioned live performances began (at least on a national scale) after a Late Show With David Letterman stop in March 2014, when the band performed its hit “Seasons (Waiting on You).” So as David Letterman nears the end of his legendary run, he welcomed the Baltimore-based band back for another performance, paired with a socially-conscious message.
“This song goes out to the people of Baltimore,” frontman Samuel T. Herring announced, introducing a new song called “The Chase.” “Let us not discount their voices. Or the voices of all the people in the cities that we live and love.”

“The Chase” became available on iTunes immediately after the performance, along with its b-side “Haunted by You.” According to Pitchfork, it will also be released on vinyl June 30, in a limited run of 2,400 copies.
