Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison has been reported missing by his family according to the BBC. The 36-year-old singer/songwriter was last seen at the Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry, Scotland, around 1 a.m. U.K. time Wednesday (May 9), before supposedly leaving for Edinburgh. Police are appealing for information on his whereabouts.
Hutchison posted a pair of concerning statements on Twitter Tuesday (May 8). “Be so good to everyone you love,” the first tweet said. “It’s not a given. I’m so annoyed that it’s not. I didn’t live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones.”
“I’m away now. Thanks,” read the second tweet, posted a few minutes later.
The rest of the Frightened Rabbit members also took to Twitter Wednesday morning asking for help, followed by an Instagram post later in the day. “We are worried about Scott, who has been missing for a little while now,” read a tweet from the band’s official account. “He may be in a fragile state and may not be making the best decisions for himself right now.”
In a statement to the BBC, inspector Graeme Dignan said, “We are keen to locate Scott as soon as possible to ensure he is safe and well and would urge anyone who can assist with our ongoing inquiries to come forward. If you believe you have seen him since the early hours of Wednesday morning or know where he currently is, then please contact police immediately.”
Both Dignan and the band have also pleaded Hutchison get in contact about his location. The band’s label, Island Records, also tweeted “please help if you can.”
Frightened Rabbit’s fifth studio album, Painting of a Panic Attack, was released in 2016, and they recently finished a tenth anniversary tour for their second album, The Midnight Organ Fight. Hutchison hinted to NME in March that a sixth album was in the works.
A representative for Frightened Rabbit had no further comment.
UPDATE: Frightened Rabbit are continuing their pleas for help in regards to locating Hutchison. The band tweeted another statement Thursday (May 10) morning saying they had yet to find their singer.
“We have no news to report on Scott’s whereabouts this morning,” the tweet said. “Your support so far has been incredible and all we ask is you keep him in your thoughts, keep an eye out and keep sharing his picture online. Thanks for everything. Your kindness and positivity is keeping us going.”
Police have appealed two people walking along Edinburgh’s Forth Road Bridge, who they suspect might know something about Hutchison’s whereabouts.
In an interview with Radio X, Hutchison’s bandmate and brother, Grant Hutchison, discussed the “immense” support they have received.
“We’ve been coping as well as we can really, I mean, all the family are together and just supporting each other and doing all we can to try and let Scott know that we’re all here for him and that we love him,” Grant said. “It’s very up and down, it comes in waves, and we just all feel a little helpless, but the support’s been incredible.”
When asked what we would say to Hutchison if he were listening, Grant replied: “Just to come back. There’s nothing that is so insurmountable that we can’t figure it out together and help you to get better and we’re all here for you and we all love you very much. If you can see the support online as well, then just know that everyone loves you very much and we just want you to come back and be safe.”
