You always want to think that your parents would be proud of you no matter what you do. Which is why when a reporter from E! asked Frances Bean Cobain what she thought her late father, Nirvana leader Kurt Cobain, would think of her recent forays into music, she said she couldn’t really speak on his behalf, but assumes he would give her the benefit of the doubt.
According to E!, Frances was on the red carpet at an event honoring designer Jeremy Scott for the Daily Front Row Fashion Award in Beverly Hills on Sunday night (Apr. 8) and a reporter asked about a recent post in which the 25 year-old revealed an a cappella snippet of a soulful, dark original song (which she subsequently took down) on the 24th anniversary of her father’s death and what it might say about her future in music.
“With regards to music, I don’t want to pigeon hole myself and say I am a musician or a visual artist because I feel like it’s all encompassing and I feel like every bit of my art is related to the other,” said Cobain, who has shown her paintings and drawings in the past but had previously kept her musical output to some cover songs. “So do I want to pursue my music further and see it come to fruition and see something further and see something palpable? Absolutely.”
As for what her dad might have said about her push into music, Frances Bean couldn’t say for sure. “I don’t have an answer for that because I don’t want to speak on someone else’s behalf,” she said. “I would hope that he would be proud of the human being I am even if he didn’t like the art I am putting out. That’s all I would ask of anyone in my life.”
E! posted pics of Frances Bean — rocking pink hair, a gauzy, tie-dye like ensemble and knee-high leather boots, posing with Scott along with another famous musical offspring, Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris Jackson.
