The Foo Fighters are up to something. The band, who were just announced as the musical guest on this weekend’s (Nov. 7) Saturday Night Live along with host comedian Dave Chappelle, teased what appears to be new music early Thursday morning (Nov. 5) in advance of their eighth visit to the Studio 8H stage.
The enigmatic video is a close up of drummer Taylor Hawkins’ eye with a red and purple flame burning in the iris as a funky, syncopated drum beat makes it appear to pulse. The instrumental snippet is accompanied only by the hashtag #LPX, a seeming reference to the band’s upcoming 10th studio album.
An earlier teaser featuring the eye of guitarist Pat Smear contained a similar beat with less snare drum sounds. The band confirmed in February that they’ve completed the follow-up to 2017’s Concrete and Gold, though a release date has not been announced so far for the record that leader Dave Grohl promised would “groove” in the manner of David Bowie’s funky 1983 Let’s Dance album.
