Put away the faerie dust and bust out the devil’s brew because Evanescence have sprinkled their goth magic on a Fleetwood Mac classic. The Amy Lee-led group has been teasing their take on Mac’s 1977 hit “The Chain” for the Gears of War 5 Xbox franchise and now that their full version of the oft-covered song is out it makes perfect sense.
With spooky, bashing drums, churning guitars and Lee’s emotional, urgent vocals the rocked-up, turgid version of the tune is perfectly Evanescence’d. “This cover was so fun to make,” Lee tweeted on Friday. “We love Fleetwood Mac and wanted to paint a dark and epic pictuer with our take on ‘The Chain.’ We’re beyond excited to share this with you and I’m really looking forward to playing it live.”
