Elton John is gearing up for his three-year farewell tour, but is hoping to take some time off the road to attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming wedding.
In an interview on ITV’s Lorraine Thursday (Jan. 25), the iconic singer songwriter discussed the couple and the highly-anticipated royal marriage.
“I spent some time with him at Google camp in Sicily last summer and I could tell that he was totally in love,” he said. “And I thought, ‘Good for you.’”
Elton didn’t directly reveal whether or not he would be attending the wedding, but did say it would be “nice.”
He then spoke of Harry and his brother William in general. “Both of those boys are very special to me because of their mother,” he shared. “He’s a good boy, his heart’s in the right place and all you want is for people to be happy.”
The legend was close with Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. While the two had a falling out, they rekindled their friendship shortly bedore her death in August 1997. He performed a touching rendition of his hit song “Candle in the Wind” at her funeral.
“She was just loved by people because she had that great ability,” he said of his dear friend. “Which her son Prince Harry has inherited, where she could walk into a room of people and make them feel at ease as if she’d known them all her life or all their life.”
