Florence + the Machine, My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon and many others have all pitched in covers of Eagles of Death Metal‘s “I Love You All the Time” for a charity campaign spearheaded by the band following last month’s terror attacks on Paris’ Bataclan theater. There were 89 people killed, with more than 200 injured.
Imagine Dragons, Ed Harcourt, Savages, Mini Mansions and Jimmy Eat World also responded to Eagles of Death Metals’ request to cover its song “I Love You All The Time” from its current album, Zipper Down, with those tracks seeing release en masse Friday (Dec. 18).
Pearl Jam has also contributed to the cause a live version of Eagles of Death Metal’s “Want You So Hard” and a cover of “I Love You All The Time” by drummer Matt Cameron, which will both be pressed to vinyl.
Publishing proceeds will go to the victims of the Nov. 13 terrorist attack and the family of Eagles of Death Metal’s crew member Nick Alexander, who was killed in the event, via band co-founder Josh Homme’s The Sweet Stuff Foundation. The band is also requesting others donate the money generated from sales of the song to the charity.
Following the attack, Eagles of Death Metal wrote a letter to the band’s friends asking they show solidarity to help victims of the event by covering “I Love You All The Time.” In the same spirit, it asked that those participating artists offer one of their songs to be covered by others and follow suit in donating those publishing monies to the charity, calling it the “Play It Forward Initiative.”
“I made a plea to artists and business people alike to come together to use our solidarity as proof that we are stronger together, and that we can make a difference,” Homme said in a statement about the campaign. “We are proud to be a little part of such a big group of talent and good will. We can’t thank these artists enough for their donations of talent, love, time, and compassion. Now, the Play It Forward Campaign is in the hands of the fans to help us make a difference, and to help those affected by this tragedy. Please listen, purchase, play, and enjoy – and know that every time you do, you’re doing the sweet stuff that makes that difference.”
The covers are available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon or streaming on Spotify.
