In less than a month, Guns N’ Roses‘ “classic” lineup will hit the road for its much anticipated Not In This Lifetime reunion tour. Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan are back at it again, ready to write a new chapter in the band’s storied history. But what about their earliest days?
Billboard is excited to premiere some exciting footage of Duff McKagan describing his first Guns N’ Roses rehearsal — the first time he performed with Axl Rose. It’s a spunky spoken word narrative set to music, a preview of the forthcoming Duff documentary It’s So Easy and Other Lies.

“Axl let out one of his screams and it was like nothing I’d ever heard,” the bassist remembers. “There were two voices coming out of him at once. I suppose there is a name for that in musicology, but all I knew in that instant was that this dude was… different… powerful… and serious.”

Written and directed by Christopher Duddy, It’s So Easy and Other Lies hits theaters June 3 via XLrator Media. It’s based on Duff’s New York Times best selling memoir of the same title, which came out back in 2011. Expect plenty of insight into GnR and McKagan’s life beyond it — his days in Velvet Revolver, triumphing over alcohol and drug addiction, his short-lived supergroup Neurotic Outsiders and more. For now, though, enjoy this riveting account straight out of 1985.
