We’re awfully excited about the new album Undertow from U.K. garage rockers Drenge. Earlier this year, we interviewed them on the Alt In Our Stars podcast and featured them in our list of 15 British Artists Ready to Break Big. Today (March 25), we’ve got an exclusive first look at a catchy track from their forthcoming album Undertow.
On past songs, guitarist-vocalist Eoin Loveless sung about how people in love make him feel “yuck” and how he wants to break people in half. On “Favourite Son,” he’s at least a little more romantic: “I wanna be loved like your favourite son!” he bellows over his brother Rory’s pummeling drums.

But visceral vocal hooks aren’t the only force at work. Since their self-titled debut (that won them best new band at the 2014 NME Awards) the brothers added a bassist, Rob Graham, whose lower end adds a subtle-yet-satisfying new dimension to the Drenge sound.
Now a trio, do the Drenge boys have what it takes to conquer the States the way they made England swoon? They haven’t announced any North American dates yet, but keep an eye on their official site for details. In the meantime, this is one of our favourite new rock songs — and don’t forget the “ou”!
