When nerd rock legends They Might Be Giants stopped by The A.V. Club’s office, they admittedly weren’t too familiar with Destiny’s Child‘s “Bills, Bills, Bills.” But when you’re participating in the A.V. Club’s Undorcover series, you’ve got to be a good sport and make do with what’s left.
Hear Screaming Females Do a Punk Cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’
And that’s just what they did.
Stripping the pop-R&B jam down to a guitar, keyboard, bass, and drum kit, TMBG gave a charming cover of the Destiny’s Child hit. John Flansburgh and John Linnell trade off the group vocals like pros. And that stop-start chorus sounds on point. They were out promoting their 2015 studio album Glean, but maybe they should give the pop covers some more thought.
If you liked this, you should definitely check out Screaming Females’ cover of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” for the same series, where one by one, artists visit the A.V. Club’s office and pick a song to cover from what’s left of that season’s list.
