Debbie Harry and Jesse Malin took the stage at a benefit concert for the Joe Strummer Foundation on Saturday (Dec. 14) to deliver a rollicking cover of the Pogues‘ 1987 hit “Fairytale of New York.”
In a nod to the Clash co-founder’s brief stint touring with the Celtic punk band in the late ’80s, the duo handily stepped into the shoes of Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan and late singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl.

“They’ve got cars big as bars/ They’ve got rivers of gold/ But the wind goes right through you/ It’s no place for the old/ When you first took my hand/ On a cold Christmas Eve/ You promised me/ Broadway was waiting for me,” Harry sang before trading lyrics with Malin.
The concert, held at New York City’s famed Bowery Ballroom, commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Clash’s seminal 1979 album London Calling.
