The pride of Pawnee, Ind., Mouse Rat, is finally releasing their debut collection, The Awesome Album. The combo fronted by Parks and Rec shoeshine stand attendant and former Fleetwood Mac Sexpants singer Andy Dwyer (aka Chris Pratt) will drop the 15-song collection on Dualtone Music on Aug. 27, with the group’s signature thoroughbred ballad, “5,000 Candles in the Wind (Bye, By Lil Sebastian),” out now.
The release announcing the long-awaited debut from the band was, of course, packed with jokes, just like the beloved sitcom. “Any creative business coming out of Pawnee is tied to Haverford,” Dualtone President Paul Roper said in a statement about Snakehole Lounge part owner Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari). “From Rent-a-Swag to Tommy Fresh cologne and Tom’s Bistro, not to mention his business ideas not yet formed — like the scented phone, talking tissues, contact lenses that display text messages and the glitter-infused laundry detergent Sparkle Suds — partnering with Entertainment 720’s hype machine was essential. The man is an idea factory.”
The collection would, of course, not be complete without a cameo from Scott Tanner (Jeff Tweedy), lead singer of equally legendary Pawnee band Land Ho!, who appears on the songs “Pickled Ginger” and “Cold Water.” Naturally, the latter also features the city’s beloved undercover sax man Duke Silver (Nick Offerman).
The release of “Candles” was, of course, celebrated by Pawnee’s favorite talk show host, Perd Hapley. Watch Perd’s announcement and the song’s majestic music video and see the track list below.
