Late Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell appears with his children Toni and Christopher in a new PSA for the anti-genocide campaign The Promise. The two-minute clip premiered on Variety Wednesday (Jan. 10) and it features Cornell’s song “The Promise,” which was written and recorded for the film of the same name that tackles the Armenian genocide.
The two-minute video opens with Toni Cornell looking into the camera and explaining, “from basic human rights to women’s rights, my dad believed that if we each vowed to keep one promise we could work to make the world a better place,” as her brother adds “I vow to keep that promise to my dad.” Cornell donated all the proceeds from the song — one of his final released recordings — to the International Rescue Committee, a global organization that helps people whose lives have been impacted by war and disaster.
Cornell appears posthumously in the video, vowing to keep the promise on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable children. Other stars also make pledges to keep the promise in Cornell’s honor in the moving trailer, including Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, Elton John, Snoop Dogg, John Carter Cash, Laila Ali, Barbra Streisand, Russell Wilson and Ciara, Tom Morello, Tom Hanks, Serj Tankian, George Clooney, Hugh Jackman, Don Cheadle, Jennifer Lopez, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Fallon, Ryan Gosling, Adam Levine, Charlie Puth, Courtney Cox, Heidi Klum, Matt Cameron and Pharrell Williams, among many others.
“The idea of supporting whatever you’re passionate about, and to me, that’s what The Promise campaign is,” Cornell says.
