Bret Michaels paid tribute to his father on Sunday (Aug. 4), just days after his dad suffered cardiac arrest.
“This morning my Dad passed away. He was a great guy & loved by all,” Michaels wrote. “He was a veteran who loved this country, people, family, golf, betting on them horses, a cold beer & long drives. My father was a dreamer, he was my warrior, my friend & most important my Dad.”
On Thursday, Michaels said he was postponing shows scheduled for that Friday and Saturday nights after his father, Wally Sychak, suffered cardiac arrest. In a post, the Poison singer told fans, “After being rushed to the emergency room and being resuscitated twice today, he is currently on a ventilator and is being kept alive by life support.”
Michaels, who had just spent a week with his dad — who came to the singer’s July 27 show at the Spyglass Amphitheater in Sunbury, Pennsylvania — postponed his Aug. 2 gig at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando (now slated for Aug. 23) and the Aug. 3 gig at the Old Town Amphitheatre in Rock Hill, South Carolina (now Aug. 24) following his dad’s illness.
Michaels said before his death Sychak was resuscitated five times, something “the doctor said he has never seen anyone in my Dad’s serious condition fight like he did. Dad you said be strong no matter what, but this pain in my heart & soul hurts so bad at the moment… so bad. I miss you already, we all do.”
