Considering Blink-182‘s lewd Take Off Your Pants and Jacket B-side “Fuck a Dog,” you might not peg the pop punks as the most pet-friendly band. But now, perhaps as an act of penance, frontman Mark Hoppus is raising money for dogs affected by Hurricane Harvey with a new solo song titled “Not Every Dog Goes to Heaven.”
Hoppus’ new single appears on a compilation called Dog Songs, with all proceeds going to the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Each track on the album is ostensibly dedicated to a different famous pooch, from Scooby Doo to the pup at the center of the “This is Fine” meme.
Hoppus dedicates his song to Dinky, the nasty canine from National Lampoon’s Vacation who meets his demise when Clark Griswold forgets to untie him from the bumper of his car before driving away. Hoppus minces no words as he eulogizes the hound, exclaiming, “Dinky, you’re such a fucking drag!” (He also reminisces fondly on Chevy Chase’s radness in the ’80s.)
Despite being billed as a Hoppus solo number, the sugary, frenetic rager features Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker behind the kit, with additional songwriting credit from pop-punk super-producer John Feldmann.
