Blink-182 is still dreaming of falling in love with the girl from the rock show.
This time, the band is doing it through video — not song — though the lead single from their forthcoming, new-lineup-introducing album California is the setting for the romance.
The song is “Bored to Death,” and its new music video features an appropriately disenchanted high-schooler who dreams of hanging on beaches, sneaking into swimming pools and, of course, rocking out in packed punk spaces with the fishnet-and-Doc Martens-wearing girl of his dreams. “It’s a long way back from 17,” sings bassist Mark Hoppus.
Check out the video below and see if you catch his vibe. Side note: It’s the first time you’ll see new guitarist Matt Skiba in a Blink music video.
Skiba, best known as co-frontman of Alkaline Trio, joined Blink this album cycle to replace longtime guitarist Tom DeLonge. In a recent interview with Mic, DeLonge described how a “national security issue” (relating to his personal UFO investigation) contributed to his departure.
Back on Earth, “Bored to Death” has been doing well on Billboard‘s charts. The new single recently became Blink-182’s highest debut ever on the Alternative Songs chart. In six weeks on the tally, it’s so far peaked at No. 2.
The new album drops July 1.
