Black Sabbath’s performance at this year’s Ozzfest Japan — reported to be the band’s last show ever — has been canceled. Either that, or it was never supposed to happen in the first place.
Via their Facebook page late Wednesday night (April 8), the metal band announced they were not playing the Nov. 22 Sabbath show, which will be an Ozzy Osbourne solo set instead. “Despite previous reports, Black Sabbath will not appear on this year’s Ozzfest Japan, the show will instead feature the festival’s namesake, Ozzy Osbourne (and friends),” they wrote on Facebook.
Black Sabbath Planning Final Album and Tour For 2015?
Ozzfest Japan’s official website still lists Black Sabbath as the Nov. 22 headliner. Billboard has reached out to representatives for the band, but has yet to receive a response.
News of the alleged final Sabbath performance was broken last month via a video from Sharon Osbourne, in which Ozzy’s wife and manager said, “Ozzfest will be back in Japan on November 21st and 22nd. And this will be Black Sabbath’s farewell.”
Ozzfest Japan is scheduled for Nov. 21 and 22, at the Makuhari Messe venue, located outside Tokyo. Korn is listed as the Nov. 21 headliner.
