Of all the songs you might imagine Beck and Voidz leader Julian Casablancas covering on their limited run of joint dates, the 1981 new wave bop “Don’t You Want Me” by Human League was probably not even on your top 20 list. And yet there the dynamic duo were on Wednesday night (Sept. 19) at Pinewood Bowl in Lincoln, Neb.
The pair shared vocals on the hit from the asymmetrical haircut band, with Casablancas taking on the focal role originated by Susan Ann Sulley (and adding an ad-lib with “The five years we have had have been such good time/ I still love you, Beck”) and Beck going the low road with Phil Oakey’s part.
Stereogum spotted a few fan videos of the one-of-a-kind collaboration. Check them out below, along with the original for reference.
