The crowd at the Ace Hotel had no idea that Beck was going to grace the stage on Tuesday night (Dec. 18) as part of Father John Misty‘s all-star fundraiser for victims of California’s devastating wildfires. It seems like even Beck wasn’t sure he would participate, since he didn’t arrive with a band. No worries, though, since Father John was more than happy to jump on the drum kit and back him up, with HAIM member Este Haim taking on bass duties, producer Jonathan Wilson on guitar and Kanye West collaborator/producer Jeff Bhasker on keyboards for a rousing performance of “Where It’s At.”
The show also featured appearances from HAIM, Rivers Cuomo from Weezer, Jenny Lewis, Rostam, Mac DeMarco, Lucius, Nate Ruess, Weyes Blood and comedian Tim Heidecker.
Watch the Beck “Where It’s At” performance below, along with a moving, acoustic “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime.”
Host Father John joined Jenny Lewis for a run through his song “God’s Favorite Customer” and FJM performed “I Love You Honeybear.”
Lewis teamed up with Haim and Lucius for a meditative “Acid Tongue.”
DeMarco did a unique version of “The Christmas Song.”
Haim stripped down “The Wire.”
And of course Cuomo did an unplugged version of Weezer’s Toto cover, “Africa.”
And former .fun singer Nate Ruess did a moving, stripped-down version of his former band’s hit “Carry On.”
