The second verse of Angels & Airwaves‘ new single “All That’s Left is Love” pretty well sums up what a lot of us are feeling these days: “We have never been here before/ To not love less, to love more/ And now after all that we’ve seen/ Yeah I’m sure, it’s for me,” Tom DeLonge sings on the moody rocker released Thursday (April 16).
Proceeds from the song will benefit Feeding America‘s COVID-19 Response Fund, and the band will launch an exclusive charity T-shirt that will benefit the organization. “Friends – as we are all stuck at home and watching these unfortunate world events unfold, we couldn’t help but notice little glimmers of light showing across the globe – revealing the positive side of humanity that sometimes gets lost in our day-to-day lives,” DeLonge said in a statement.
“That, ultimately, is what this band has been about since day one – HOPE. With all of that in mind, we decided to channel our feelings into a song.”
“Love” follows on the heels of the earlier singles “Rebel Girl” and “Kiss & Tell”; A&A is working on the follow-up to 2016’s Chasing Shadows EP.
DeLonge debuted the song on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show Thursday, explaining why the band chose San Diego-based Feeding America as their charity of choice by describing how FA’s board chair, Gwendolyn Meyer, brought him in to work with the organization a few years ago. “I’ve gone down with Feeding America, and I’ve handed out food on holidays and for people in need,” DeLonge said in the interview, which will air in full Friday.
“I’ve gone to schools and handed out food to a lot of these kids only get their meals at school. And a lot of people think that the United States obviously is a more wealthy country than other, but there’s still so much poverty here. As you know, you live in Los Angeles, and so you can see that there’s a disparity between the classes. It was very simple for me to make one phone call and say, ‘Why don’t we do this? Because this is something that everybody needs right now. People can’t take care of their families. Kids are not in schools where they’re getting their only meal of the day.'”
