Rock icons Aerosmith are being recognized as the 2020 Musicares Person of the Year thanks to their “considerable philanthropic efforts over five decades and undeniable impact on American music history,” according to a statement, which made note of singer Steven Tyler’s Janie’s Fund charity as one of the many causes the group supports.
The event at the Los Angeles Convention Center will feature additional performers to be announced at a later date. Past MusiCares honorees include Tony Bennett, Bono, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Carole King, Dolly Parton and many more; Aerosmith is only the second band to be chosen for the honor following Fleetwood Mac in 2018. ?
The 30th anniversary gala and tribute will take place on Jan. 24, two days before the 62nd Grammy Awards take over the Staples Center in Los Angeles. As always, proceeds for the bash will go to MusiCares, which provides financial and other support for music people in times of need.
