Young Thug is saying R.I.P. to Slime Season. The Atlanta rapper revealed the release date for the third installment of his Slime Season series at SXSW with a casket that read “3.25.16” and a funeral procession — alongside a marching band — that rolled through Austin’s 6th Street on Friday (March 18).

Thug’s frequent collaborator Be El Be confirmed the drop date after retweeting a Billboard staffer’s picture of the procession. “Don’t like the casket theme at all But there goes your date on ss3,” he wrote.
Thug’s 300 label boss, Lyor Cohen, teased the funeral on Snapchat, saying, “Today in Austin, we’re gonna bury Slime Season 3.“
Be El Be expanded on Twitter. “What Lyor meant was, dropping SS3 and getting past all the talk and this era of thug,” he posted. “Moving forward to dropping albums and hits SS3 OTW [??]”

A rep also said the procession marked the end of Thug’s Slime Season era and the beginning of what was being described internally as “Year of Thug.”
This isn’t the first time Thug has employed theatrics for promo. He recently rode around on a horse in ATL to get the word out about his HY!£UN35 tour.
