Young Thug’s first on camera sit-down interview in years was released Sunday (July 15). No Jumper‘s Adam 22 caught up with Thugger in his trailer prior to his performance at Wireless Festival across the pond earlier in July. Thug showed love to the next generation of rappers, but as someone who was no stranger to backlash when trying to break into rap, the ATL native believes Lil Nas X shouldn’t have gone public with his sexuality, in order to protect his brand from the recoil.
“I feel like he probably shouldn’t have told the world, because these days motherfuckers is just all judgement,” said Thugger. “It ain’t even about the music no more. Soon as the song comes on everybody’s like, ‘This gay ass n—a.’ N—s don’t even care to listen to the song no more. Just to certain people. He’s young and backlash can come behind anything.”
The “Digits” rapper continued to applaud his decision to come out during Pride Month. “It wasn’t a bad idea,” Thug stated. “It was most definitely the best time to do it during Pride [Month]. That was a genius move. He’s young so I know he’s going to be dealing with it in his mind. I’ve dealt with this shit before, so that’s why I was like, ‘Fuck. He should have never said that.'”
Overall, Thug is a huge fan of Nas X’s movement, and has been an OG of sorts to his fellow ATLien. Thugger even hopped on the latest “Old Town Road” remix alongside ” Yodel Boy” Mason Ramsay to continue the biggest song in the country’s historic run.
