As the top trending Twitter hashtag says, it truly is #NickiDay. On Thursday afternoon (April 12), Nicki Minaj dropped yet another new song — following the release of the promised “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li” — this one called “Anybody,” a collaboration which appears on Young Thug’s Hear No Evil EP. “Anybody” is accompanied by a music video, which is done in sign language and can be seen in full below.
Nicki premiered the first two songs of her trifecta during a Beats 1 interview with Zane Lowe. “Chun-Li” features horns throughout its infectious beat and makes comparisons between the rapper and the Street Fighter character for which the song is named. Chun-Li was the first female character in the video game franchise and Minaj is making a similar statement about her role as a leading female emcee in the music industry.
The other single “Barbie Tingz” — which already has a music video teaser and official lyric video — finds Minaj reclaiming her place on a rap throne. Throughout the track, Minaj leaves no room for competition and explains her temporary social media hiatus. “Rap bitches tell their team, ‘Make em like Barbie’. Had to come off IG so they can’t stalk me,” she raps. In the video teaser, Minaj performs her signature robotic ‘Barbie’ moves before the video pans to a lineup of Nicki clones.
Young Thug first teased Hear No Evil on Instagram on April 11. He also changed his avatar on the platform to Nicki’s “Chun-Li” cover in honor of the fan-dubbed “Nicki Day.”
