As Yo Gotti‘s single “Rake It Up” was heating up charts, he was under close watch as a suspect in a shooting that left fellow Memphis rapper Young Dolph in critical condition after he was shot several times. Gotti has kept mum on the incident, but stopped by The Breakfast Club on Thursday (Oct. 26) to clear his name and discussed the feud that’s been brewing between him and Dolph.
Charlamagne asked Gotti if he believes the feud went a little far, but the “Rake It Up” rapper insisted that there is no real issue between him and Dolph. He added that he isn’t focused on feuds or “street cred” because he’s on a bigger platform and tries to remove himself from the negativity.
“Me and home never had one argument — ever in life. We never touched each other ever in life, we never exchanged no money ever in life. The fact is, I’m the biggest rapper from Memphis, I help a lot of rappers from Memphis. I don’t know, I can’t really think about what it is.”

He said that he used to help Dolph by providing the then-rising rapper with advice about the rap game and even invited him to his shows. He pulled up a text from August 24, 2012, where he offered the “While U Here” rapper some words of wisdom and allowed Charlamagne to read the messages aloud.
“That’s how you gotta approach this shit homie, just gotta stay down and make the right decisions and you can win big,” the text allegedly stated. “You in a good space in Memphis but you gotta take that shit from there to the world and it’s gon’ turn into money. I like your grind my n—a; when I was in your position, none of them n—as who could’ve helped me did. Our city f–ked up and I’m trying to stop letting history repeat itself and show n—as we can get money together and everybody be on some boss shit.”
Charlamagne later questioned Gotti about the irony of Dolph getting shot and releasing a project as he did with a shooting earlier this year when he released Bulletproof and his most recent project Thinking Out Loud, which was dropped just days after the injured rapper was discharged from the hospital.
“I don’t know what he’s getting advised. I don’t know, I’m just saying I wouldn’t do some of the shit,” Gotti continued. “It’s working for him obviously, we’re talking about him.”
