As the madness of Art Basel transpired outside of Miami last week, Yo Gotti teased his next work of art: his forthcoming album, Trapped. After jumping on a few popular records throughout the year, Gotti came to the Wynwood gallery with one mission on his mind — to finalize his tenth studio album.
The “Rake It Up” rapper arrived to the gallery next to the RC Cola Plant dripping in an assortment of silver diamond necklaces paired with a white, long sleeve Gucci shirt and matching rings on his fingers. As the Dussé and champagne was passed around the event sponsored by PUMA Basketball, the Roc Nation artist gave the crowd a sneak peak of what to expect from his upcoming project, which is expected to drop in early 2019.
“PUMA is like family man. We do a lot of things together. We’ve got a lot of collaborations coming up in the future, and a lot of things that we’re doing in the community together,” he said.

With DJ E Feezy holding down the DJ Booth, Gotti premiered a playlist of 20 unreleased tracks that may end on his next album. Although he didn’t confirm any of the song titles, the “Juice” MC debuted new music that will make any party turn all the way up as well as fresh collaborations with fellow Memphis native Blocboy JB and Lil Baby.
“I think this album is going to be one of my classic albums ever,” Yo Gotti told Billboard. “I was just telling somebody on my management team that right now I feel more charged than ever. This is how deep the hunger is. I don’t know if it’s just the hustler nature in me or what, but I can’t even explain this shit.”
Gotti expects to drop the album in the New Year, but he wanted to give a small crowd of esteemed artists, members, of the press and fans an opportunity to help him decide which songs will land on his next LP. Amongst the elite crowd, artists like G-Eazy and Drink Champs host N.O.R.E were in the building to hear the album.
“I’m going to put it like this,” Gotti added. “When you live a certain way for so long, that’s the only way people can see you. I don’t necessarily mean that’s who you is or you can’t change, but it’s a stigma that they put on you when you’re from a place where I’m from. That’s one way of looking at Trapped.”
It’s been over a year since the Memphis native dropped his I Still Am album, which hit No. 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Yo Gotti hasn’t confirmed the release date for Trapped, but he does hint that his collaboration with Lil Baby could drop at anytime. Until then, the fans will have to wait to witness Gotti’s upcoming masterpiece from Art Basel.
“This was a sneak peak,” he adds. “Most of the music is unfinished, shit that was just ideas. The people’s responses here at the party will help us pick out the records that will make the cut. [I] played 20 records, and may use 14.”
