After debuting our first installment of First Beat featuring new music from Jessie Reyez, Pardison Fontaine and Flipp Dinero, this week, Billboard checks out the latest releases from YNW Melly, 03 Greedo and Summer Walker.
Give them a spin below.
YNW Melly, Melly Vs. Melvin
After being charged with two counts of first-degree murder last February, YNW Melly’s momentum has yet to slow down. Following the success of Hot 100 hits “Murder on My Mind,” “Mixed Personalities” and “223,” the embattled rapper returns with his surprise album Melly Vs. Melvin. On the somber “Suicidal,” he painfully speaks about a failed romance, while on “Adam Sandler,” he shifts gears and doles out a bouncy earworm.
03 Greedo X Kenny Beats, Netflix & Deal
03 Greedo’s promise of releasing music during his 20-year sentence so far isn’t a fluke: In April, he partnered up with DJ Mustard for their West Coast leaning effort Still Summer in the Projects, and today, Greedo aligns himself with Kenny Beats for a thrilling, cinematic mixtape titled Netflix & Deal. Highlights include “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” and “Brad Pitt,” where Greedo pens playful anthems based on some of Hollywood’s biggest inspirations.
Summer Walker, “Something Real” featuring London on Da Track & Chris Brown
Even after dashing her way to a top three release on the Billboard 200 last October with her debut album Over It, Walker refuses to hit the pause button on her impressive 2019 run. The Atlanta singer speeds the tempo up and recruits her producer/beau, London On Da Track, and Chris Brown for a cosmic collaboration. London drizzles the summery track with ’90s vibes, allowing Walker and Brown to go on a quest for real love.
